Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

June 28, 2023

Romans 8:26-28

26 In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don’t know what to pray, but the Spirit pleads our case with unexpressed groans. 27 The one who searches hearts knows how the Spirit thinks because he pleads for the saints, consistent with God’s will. 28 We know that God works all things together for good for those who love God and those who are called according to his purpose.

Good Morning, Pray continuously to find strength, love, and mercy.

When you accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters into you. The Holy Spirit is God within you. Through this union, the transformation of our souls begins. In good times and bad times, we are never alone. We are intimately connected together, and our thoughts become one.

Prayer is our way of speaking to God, and there is no required way to pray. Prayers can be spoken or silent. For me, many of my prayers come to fruition through music. In our times of desperation, prayers may be reduced to sobs, sighs, and groans. It is then that the Holy Spirit speaks on our behalf.

For some people, prayer is a spontaneous extension of their thoughts. For others, it is a more deliberate action. We can build a capacity to pray by setting times to pray until it becomes this more natural part of our existence. I believe praying can become synonymous with breathing. This happens when we find ourselves praying without consciously deciding to do so. Many times these prayers are not restricted by our human language. They might be a melody floating on the breeze as the leaves flutter in the wind.

When we open ourselves to God, we will be filled with the peace that passes all understanding. The words “rest” and “quietness” are at the root word of “peace” in Philippians 4:6-7, which says, “Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

Loving God, We thank you for Your blessings. Your word is available to us so that we may find our way. Thank you for listening to our thoughts and granting us mercy. We Thank You! In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: The Holy Spirit prays for me when I cannot pray.
