Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
June 29, 2024
Psalm 34:1-10
1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise will always be in my mouth. 2 I praise the LORD; let the suffering listen and rejoice. 3 Magnify the LORD with me! Together let us lift his name up high! 4 I sought the LORD and he answered me. He delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to God will shine; their faces are never ashamed. 6 This suffering person cried out: the LORD listened and saved him from every trouble. 7 On every side, the LORD’s messenger protects those who honor God; and he delivers them. 8 Taste and see how good the LORD is! The one who takes refuge in him is truly happy! 9 You who are the LORD’s holy ones, honor him because those who honor him don’t lack a thing. 10 Even strong young lions go without and get hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Good Morning! Bless the Lord and worship His Holy Name!
Praise him, praise him,
praise him in the morning,
praise him in the noontime.
Praise him, praise him,
praise him when the sun goes down.
There is a curious paradox in our human nature. When life is smooth sailing, we find it easy to praise God and place our trust in him. However, when the storms of life hit, we often forget, suffer in silence, and anticipate the worst. It's only when we hit rock bottom, when we are at our most vulnerable that we remember Jesus' promise never to leave us. His constant presence is our ultimate reassurance.
Whenever we want to change our lifestyle, we must be diligent and do this new thing every day without allowing excuses to interrupt our routine. A runner goes out and completes their run, rain or shine. When we start giving ourselves an exemption, one time grows into many days, and our routine is lost.
This happens when we decide to set a daily time with God. Things happen, and we get busy. Before you know it, it has been days, weeks, or years since we stopped and purposely spent time with God. The only thing that brings us back is despair.
When we maintain our routine, we are ready to face our challenges (which will always exist) with a bold confidence that accompanies the children of God. We don’t just hope; we know God will see us through the storms.
Praise him, praise him,
praise him in the morning,
praise him in the noontime.
Praise him, praise him,
praise him when the sun goes down.
Creator God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. You promise always to love, protect, and provide for us, but sometimes we forget your promises. Thank you for always being with us despite our weaknesses. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: We are redeemed by God’s grace!
God is Good! All the Time! Amen! Pastor Liz
