Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Proverbs 3:19-26
19 The LORD laid the foundations of the earth with wisdom, establishing the heavens with understanding. 20 With his knowledge, the watery depths burst open, and the skies drop dew. 21 My son, don’t let them slip from your eyes; hold on to sound judgment and discretion. 22 They will be life for your whole being, and an ornament for your neck. 23 Then you will walk safely on your path, and your foot won’t stumble. 24 If you lie down, you won’t be terrified. When you lie down, your sleep will be pleasant. 25 Don’t fear sudden terror or the ruin that comes to the wicked. 26 The LORD will be your confidence; he will guard your feet from being snared.
Good Morning! Christ is the sure foundation!
Nothing can withstand the storms that come at night without a sure foundation. 19 The LORD laid the foundations of the earth with wisdom, establishing the heavens with understanding . . . 22 They will be life for your whole being and an ornament for your neck.
I love the imagery of verse 22. The idea of wisdom and understanding being an ornament for our neck is comforting. They aren’t hidden deep within us where they might be lost and forgotten. It reminds me of tying a string around your finger to remind you of something when you see the string. Each time you see it, you think, "Oh, yeah! That's it."
We are humans and sinners, but by the grace of God, we are redeemed by the blood of Christ. Our ornament of wisdom and understanding gives us peace and confidence that we are loved and blessed.
Creator God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. We need reminders not to forget that you are with us. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Each day, say, “Thank you, God.”
Build your life upon the Lord! Pastor Liz
