Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 8, 2025
Psalm 32:1-5
1 The one whose wrongdoing is forgiven, whose sin is covered over, is truly happy! 2 The one the LORD doesn’t consider guilty in whose spirit there is no dishonesty that one is truly happy! 3 When I kept quiet, my bones wore out; I was groaning all day long every day, every night! 4 because your hand was heavy upon me. My energy was sapped as if in a summer drought. Selah 5 So I admitted my sin to you; I didn’t conceal my guilt. “I’ll confess my sins to the LORD,” is what I said. Then you removed the guilt of my sin. Selah
Good Morning! Lean on the everlasting arms of Christ!
As I age, I reluctantly recognize that some things are harder to do than they once were. I’m not quite as strong or fast, but what I’ve lost physically, I have gained mentally and spiritually. I am learning to let go of my pride and ask for help when things are too heavy or cumbersome for me to handle on my own.
When we try to carry our burdens on our own, we fabricate this covering that enshrouds and weighs us down. Each step seems heavier than the last, and we feel as if we can’t go on. Letting go is hard for me, and for many others, because we enjoy the feeling of being in control. Even when I recognize that “being in control” is an illusion, I find a need to hang on as long as possible.
I allow the angst of the struggle to fester until I can take no more. Finally, the weariness overwhelms me when I stumble and come to a stop. In my despair, I cry out for help. “Oh Lord, I am a sinner! Remove my pride and arrogance! Help me!”
This struggle is real and is not mine alone. It belongs to many. Humbling ourselves before God is challenging. Letting go brings immediate relief. In that moment, the weight is lifted as God destroys our self-constructed shroud, and our burdens disappear. We feel refreshed and renewed. We suddenly see answers instead of problems.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Oh my! We want to believe that we can conquer everything we encounter. Thank you for being there when we are ready to ask for forgiveness and help. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive them.
Forgiveness awaits those who ask! Pastor Liz
