Morning Devotional 071723 With Us, Now and Forever

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

July 17, 2023

Psalm 121:1-8

1 I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. 3 God won’t let your foot slip. Your protector won’t fall asleep on the job. 4 No! Israel’s protector never sleeps or rests! 5 The LORD is your protector; the LORD is your shade right beside you. 6 The sun won’t strike you during the day; neither will the moon at night. 7 The LORD will protect you from all evil; God will protect your very life. 8 The LORD will protect you on your journeys whether going or coming from now until forever from now.

Good Morning, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

This passage was a favorite for my mom and dad. They were born and raised in the mountains of Kentucky, and they had a special connection to the mountains. They spent much of their adult lives in the flat lands of Indiana. I remember when we would travel, they loved seeing any mountains, but especially the ones where they grew up. Those mountains indicated home to them and held a special sense of belonging.

I find great comfort in these words of David as he explains that God is always with us and by our side 24/7. For me, looking to the majestic mountains that surround us in the Piedmont of Virginia reminds me of God’s promise. Bless the Lord, O my soul.

God will protect us wherever we go. We must give our lives to God, and we can confidently sing, “It is well with my soul.”

Loving God, We thank you! Please hold our hands when our foot slips along our journey. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God promises to be with me always.

Praising God all day long! Pastor Liz
