Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 21, 2025
Psalm 40:1-18
1 I put all my hope in the LORD. He leaned down to me; he listened to my cry for help. 2 He lifted me out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth, and set my feet on solid rock. He steadied my legs. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise for our God. Many people will learn of this and be amazed; they will trust the LORD. 4 Those who put their trust in the LORD, who pay no attention to the proud or to those who follow lies, are truly happy! 5 You, LORD my God! You’ve done so many things, your wonderful deeds and your plans for us, no one can compare with you! If I were to proclaim and talk about all of them, they would be too numerous to count!
Good Morning! God’s love conquers all!
I believe and expect God’s mysterious ways to appear before me. I was anxious to see what passage would be in the queue for today. As the tears flow, I celebrate Lowell’s 5th heavenly birthday. I know he has left behind his pain and sickness and is with God, but the void of his absence remains.
On that early morning, I leaned into God and cried for help.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth, and set my feet on solid rock. He steadied my legs. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise for our God.
It was in those moments, when my soul was vulnerable, that God revealed it was time for me to sing a new song and pick up the mantle and preach the Good News. I felt like I was on the battlefield of life, and the servant who was leading me had fallen, and it was now my turn to pick up the cross to continue the mission of saving souls.
Becoming a pastor was ot a choice I made, but a calling which God placed within me. I sat with this idea for a bit, but the next day I called my District Superintendent and shared what God wanted me to do. Understandably, he said, give yourself time for grieving and let’s talk later. I can’t forget my next words as God urged me forward. God wants me to talk now.
7 So I said, “Here I come! I’m inscribed in the written scroll. 8 I want to do your will, my God. Your Instruction is deep within me.”
So, we talked, and I began to sing the new song in praise of God. My new song was revealed to me at the most unexpected time, but by God’s grace, I will continue singing it until God calls me home. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior, all the day long.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! With God, our losses are filled with love. Instead of focusing on the grief, we learn to embrace the memories. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God is with us in our troubled times.
Sing God’s praises all the day long! Pastor Liz
