Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
July 29, 2025
Proverbs 24:13-14
13 My child, eat honey, for it is good. The honeycomb is sweet in your mouth. 14 Know that wisdom is like that for your whole being. If you find it, there is a future. Your hope won’t be cut off.
Good Morning! Be aware, the Lord is Near!
These words remind us to seek what is from God. The honeycomb provides healthy, sweet drippings from which our bodies benefit. Likewise, wisdom comes from God so when we study God’s word, we will benefit from the wisdom that is contained in Scripture.
Solomon is comparing the sweetness of honey to the blessings of wisdom. What the word says to us is that when we get wisdom, there is a good end to things. If we live our lives with wisdom, our lives will have a desired end - one that is blessed and good. We are also told that when we partake of wisdom, our hope will not be cut off. Wisdom yields a lasting hope. Wise living is living for eternal things. Living for this world may seem great at first - but in the end, it is bitter.
“Know that wisdom is like that for your whole being.” This is the core of the comparison that Solomon is making. Just as honey is sweet to the taste, wisdom is sweet to the soul. It brings a sense of well-being, fulfillment, and hope. Pursuing and finding wisdom isn't just a momentary experience; it provides a foundation for a hopeful future and prevents one from being discouraged or despairing.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! You give us the tools we need to live a fulfilled life. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Study God’s word to find the wisdom that brings hope.
Those who seek wisdom find joy in their lives! Pastor Liz
