Morning Devotional 073124 Don't Forget to Listen

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  July 31, 2024

Psalm 46: 8-11

Come and see what the Lord has done,

    the desolations he has brought on the earth.

He makes wars cease

    to the ends of the earth.

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

    he burns the shields with fire.

10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

    I will be exalted among the nations,

    I will be exalted in the earth.”

Good Morning! God is with us!

I love watching the Olympics. For as long as I can remember, I have cheered when the athletes were doing well, and felt their sorrow when things did not go as planned.

In my mind one of most challenging things would be to block out everything so that I could focus on my event. In the movie, For the Love of the Game, I remember seeing those scenes where Kevin Costner “clears the mechanism” and all the noise and chaos is suddenly gone. Of course, that is the special affects that directors can use to help the audience see this process.

We live in a world full of noise and chaos, and we struggle with clearing our minds so that we can hear God’s will. David reminds us that God says, “Be still and know that I am God.”

It is important to find that time to shut off the worldly noise that surrounds and fills us, and listen for the divine sound of God.

Loving God, Thank you for creating us. We get so consumed by noise and activity that we don’t notice you speaking to us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Spending time with God gives us strength.

Don’t forget to listen! God is speaking! Pastor Liz
