Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

August 1, 2025

Isaiah 41:8-10

8 But you, Israel my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham, whom I love, 9 you whom I took from the ends of the earth and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant; I chose you and didn’t reject you”: 10 Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will surely help you; I will hold you with my righteous strong hand.

Good Morning! God chooses us and doesn’t reject us!

Do you remember playing organized games in elementary school? I was never much of an athlete, and it was always stressful when it came time to choose teams. It is unlikely that I would ever be chosen for my athletic prowess, so my only hope was that the team captain was one of my friends. The thought of being chosen last can be devastating to anyone.

God chooses each of us by setting us apart to share love, peace, joy, and hope with the world. God doesn’t check our resume or ask us to do sit-ups for a month to improve our ability to serve. God takes us as we are and doesn’t reject us despite our shortcomings.

Rejoice, you have been chosen to be on God’s team! Do not fear, God will provide for your needs and be with you through any challenges you face! When we falter, God will help us and hold us until we can take our next step. Go Team God!

Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Thank you for believing in us! You see our faults, but choose us anyway! Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God walks beside us every moment of every day!

Gear up! God picked you for his team!  Pastor Liz
