Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
August 4, 2021
Read Proverbs 3:1-6
1 My son, don’t forget my instruction. Let your heart guard my commands, 2 because they will help you live a long time and provide you with well-being. 3 Don’t let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and approval in the eyes of God and humanity. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight.
Good Morning! Praise God continually for all of your days!
Have you ever considered the importance of experiencing life through the lens of your heart? As my time away from home is drawing to a close, I continue to reflect upon many things. As fast-paced and intense as this vacation has been, it has been a time of building great memories that will last a lifetime. Memories are a funny thing. It seems that they are stored in our brains, but the most important memories live in our hearts. Even when the details of the images and events fade, our hearts will continue to preserve the precious moments of our lives.
Over the past two weeks, I have had so much time to engage in people-watching. The diversity of the crowds is expansive and seems to reflect our current society. People of many cultures and nationalities are here, traditional and non-traditional family groups are here, and the different personalities that are represented could fill volumes of books. It is fun to watch and listen to the groups as we wait in lines to participate in the next ride or show. As I watch facial expressions and body language, I can develop many storylines ranging from happiness to heartache, but it is wonderful to watch the love working within the family groups.
All you need is love! As Christians, we are called to love God and love our neighbors. In these verses of Proverbs, we are tasked to protect and never forget our God and to trust God with all our hearts. When given the choice between following our heart or following our brain, we often struggle as adults because our brains try to make things logical so we are confused when the pieces don’t seem to fit together. Only through the lens of our hearts can we open our minds to the endless possibilities that God provides. When you find yourself holding on to the practical, look into your heart and find the strength to let go and trust God.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. May we learn to trust you in all things as we let our hearts see the goodness in every opportunity. What the world needs now is more love! Help us be the source of strength and love for those in need. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Open your hearts to the messages of God.
Let go and trust God! Pastor Liz
