Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

August 5, 2021

Read Ephesians 5:1-2

1 Therefore, imitate God like dearly loved children. 2 Live your life with love, following the example of Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us. He was a sacrificial offering that smelled sweet to God.

Good Morning! Rejoice! Rejoice! Again I say rejoice!

We can learn so much about ourselves when we watch children. Children are less likely to have developed the preconceived notions that often rule our lives. Watching a child is often like looking into a mirror. Children love to imitate the adults in their lives. We see actions and hear words just as we would have said them. Sometimes this is cute, but other times we are appalled because we see just how we look in the eyes of others.

God sent Jesus to show us the way to love and interact with others. If only we could do a better job of imitating Jesus, the world could become a beautiful place where everyone loves one another and all work together to make sure that each child of God has what they need.

Take a moment and look around! How are you being imitated by others? Is your reflection one filled with love and joy, or is your reflection one of doubt and despair? To serve God as we are called, we must embrace the Holy Spirit working within us to show Christ to the world as evidenced by how we walk and talk. Let your light shine and remove the darkness that fills so many. Look in that mirror and ask yourself: How is your soul, today?

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. There are so many lost souls in the world. Help us be the light so that others see You through us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Today I will seek to imitate the love of Christ.
