Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Read Proverbs 4:25-27
25 Focus your eyes straight ahead; keep your gaze on what is in front of you. 26 Watch your feet on the way, and all your paths will be secure. 27 Don’t deviate a bit to the right or the left; turn your feet away from evil.
Good morning! Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path!
We are so blessed. God sent Jesus to be our light so that the path is alway illuminated. Despite this, we sometimes manage to wander off our pathway. There are so many distractors in this world that grab our attention and pull us in. Evil has a stronghold and places temptations among us.
Imagine walking down the road and suddenly you see bright flashing lights and hear loud noises. Oh wow! It sounds like a party, so you decide to check it out. When you walk inside, everything seems great. There are yummy refreshments, happy looking people, great music, and beautiful decorations. As you mingle and immerse yourself further into the party, you might start to sense that something is not right, or maybe you are so blinded by having a “good” time that you don’t notice that things are amiss.
As we wander further into the crowd, the tone begins to change. The bright lights that lured you in, begin to dim. Suddenly, you find yourself in darkness. Instinctively, when we are in the dark, we look for the light. When you call out for help, Jesus is there to show you the way. Even when we are in the darkest recesses of our world, the light of Jesus is available to light our path.
During our time on earth, we must never lose focus on our path before us. Paul reminds us how to fix ourselves on Christ in Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (NIV)
Loving and Caring God, Thank You for loving us. Evil lures us in because of our sinful nature. Jesus is ready to answer our call and pull us back to safety. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
