Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 6, 2025
Deuteronomy 31:6-8
6 Be strong! Be fearless! Don’t be afraid and don’t be scared by your enemies, because the LORD your God is the one who marches with you. He won’t let you down, and he won’t abandon you. 7 Then Moses called Joshua and, with all Israel watching, said to him: “Be strong and fearless because you are the one who will lead this people to the land the LORD swore to their ancestors to give to them; you are the one who will divide up the land for them. 8 But the LORD is the one who is marching before you! He is the one who will be with you! He won’t let you down. He won’t abandon you. So don’t be afraid or scared!”
Good Morning! The Lord is the one who is marching before you!
Be strong! Be fearless! The words “do not be afraid” are written in The Bible in some iteration more than 100 times. When Moses shares these words, he is first addressing the Israelites he has led out of captivity, across the desert, and now they’ve reached the Jordan River, beyond which lies the promised land.
Why do we have fear? I find my most likely cause of fear is when I face uncertainty. It seems that once I know what I’m facing, I can work on how to move forward. God calls us to trust that everything we need will be provided, and therefore, even in uncertainty, through faith, we can find the strength we need.
God promises, and repeatedly fulfills these promises to be marching before us, to be with us, to not let us down, and to not abandon us. When we learn to rely on our faith and trust God, we will find the love, hope, peace, and joy that eludes us when we are troubled.
I believe in the triune God: God the father who protects us, Jesus his only son who leads the way, and the Holy Spirit within us that transforms us so that we can grow the faith that can move mountains.
Be Strong! Be Fearless! Soar on the wings of Eagles! Find the verses that speak to you and rely on them to remind you of God’s never-ending love and promise so that you may live your life as the chosen ones through whom God will save the world.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We are weak, but you are strong. Thank you for holding on to us when we feel as if we are falling. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Walk with confidence! God is with us!
Be strong! Be Fearless! Pastor Liz
