Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 7, 2025
Isaiah 55:8-11
8 My plans aren’t your plans, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. 9 Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my plans than your plans. 10 Just as the rain and the snow come down from the sky and don’t return there without watering the earth, making it conceive and yield plants and providing seed to the sower and food to the eater, 11 so is my word that comes from my mouth; it does not return to me empty. Instead, it does what I want, and accomplishes what I intend.
Good Morning! Our God is an awesome God!
There are many times when I have multiple tasks to do at the same time. When I have implemented a plan for each of these tasks, my results can be excellent. However, if there is no solid plan in place, my desired results are often left unfulfilled.
One thing I have noticed is that if someone who was unaware of my plan comes along and tries to make sense of what is happening, it may seem chaotic or disorganized. As my plan unfolds, I have my own checkpoints that unlock as the need approaches.
Think of a giant arrangement of dominoes set to come together, and you watch as multiple paths converge upon the final domino at the end. Watching this event is truly amazing, but if one of the dominoes is incorrectly turned or spaced, the progression stops along the way, and many of the dominoes remain standing.
For a moment, imagine God’s plan as this infinite domino design. God started the progression with the creation of the Earth. Each living species represents a different pathway of dominoes. Because God is all-powerful, when some of the dominoes get out of place or turned away from the pathway, God has the Holy Spirit in place to make the changes to keep the progression moving.
For those who refuse to change or react, the pathway might have a stretch of unmet expectations, but because God is God, someone comes along to reinitiate the progression. The greatest part is that as the progression reaches complete fulfillment, all who have followed come together in one glorious victory. As the last domino falls, the Earth completes its transition into a New Jerusalem as described in the Book of Revelations.
Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Oh my, what an interesting group we are. Many think that they can stop God’s plan by placing barriers in the way, but God has a workaround in place for each of us, so that despite our flaws, we may choose ultimate fulfillment. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: With God, all have the capacity to complete their path to eternity.
