Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

August 12, 2025

Psalm 22:3-5

3 You are the holy one, enthroned. You are Israel’s praise. 4 Our ancestors trusted you they trusted you and you rescued them; 5 they cried out to you and they were saved; they trusted you and they weren’t ashamed.

Good Morning! Trust in God!

We begin life as trusting souls. Babies and toddlers depend upon someone to meet all of their needs, and because their needs are met, they learn to trust. This works well for a few years, but over time, our trust is betrayed by a forgotten request or an unfulfilled promise. This leads to one of our biggest challenges: cynicism.

The more times our trust is betrayed, the more our cynicism grows. If too many trusts are broken, then we develop an understanding that we should trust no one. To overcome this lack of trust is hard and can be a lengthy process.

God calls us to trust, and Jesus modeled that trust throughout his earthly walk. Jesus came to us, God’s children, knowing that we would betray him, and this betrayal would lead to a painful death. Yet, he came anyway. Jesus came to teach us a new way and to save us from ourselves.

Despite those countless broken promises and alliances with others, we must allow the Holy Spirit to work within us so that we can tear down our walls of cynicism and trust the one who created us. God does not break promises. God loves us so much that he sent Jesus to save us. Open your heart and trust the Lord who loves you as you are.

Giving Lord, you bless us abundantly! It can be hard to trust others because we have been hurt so many times. Thank you for giving us time to work through our challenges. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God sends us signs to remind us of our gift of eternal life.

Trust in the Word of God! Pastor Liz
