Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  August 13, 2024

Psalm 3:1-5

1 LORD, I have so many enemies! So many are standing against me. 2 So many are talking about me: “Even God won’t help him.” Selah 3 But you, LORD, are my shield! You are my glory! You are the one who restores me. 4 I cry out loud to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain. Selah 5 I lie down, sleep, and wake up because the LORD helps me.

Good Morning! Our Lord is our Shield!

In all things, we rely on God. We do not know what the new day will bring, but in God, we will be strengthened. I lie down, sleep, and wake up because the Lord helps me. It is the unwavering faith of those who step out without question that truly demonstrates their trust in God's plan.

When I feel doubts arising, I go to the stories of our ancestors: Moses, Abraham, Ruth, and all of the prophets. The prophets who were charged with sharing God’s words that often offended or angered those to whom they delivered them.

I remember Elijah, hiding in the cave, being asked by God, “Elijah, what are you doing here?” Elijah had hidden because he was in fear of his life. God gave him the words he needed to continue his journey. What about Abraham, whom God called to start a new nation when he was well into his 90s? What about Jonah, whom God sent to Nineva with seven words that changed the course of the city?

Lord, you are with me, you know everything I do. When I rise, when I lie down, you are with me. Nothing that is troubling us is unknown to God. Give your worries to God and be blessed.

Faithful God, Thank you for creating us. Without you, we are weak, but with you, we are strong. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Reading God’s word will help me through the storms of life.

God is with us 24/7! Pastor Liz
