Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
August 20, 2024
Psalm 27:1-14
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation. Should I fear anyone? The LORD is a fortress protecting my life. Should I be frightened of anything? 2 When evildoers come at me trying to eat me up it’s they, my foes and my enemies, who stumble and fall! 3 If an army camps against me, my heart won’t be afraid. If war comes up against me, I will continue to trust in this: 4 I have asked one thing from the LORD it’s all I seek: to live in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, seeing the LORD’s beauty and constantly adoring his temple. 11 LORD, teach me your way; because of my opponents, lead me on a good path. 12 Don’t give me over to the desires of my enemies because false witnesses and violent accusers have taken their stand against me. 13 But I have sure faith that I will experience the LORD’s goodness in the land of the living! 14 Hope in the LORD! Be strong! Let your heart take courage! Hope in the LORD!
Good Morning! The Lord is our light and our salvation!
Fear is a crippling emotion that can cause physical pain as well as spiritual and emotional pain. When we are fearful, our heartbeat races as our anxiety increases. Initially, we try those things that we believe will work to calm us down, but when those fail to work, our panic grows.
Each of us responds to this panic differently, but at some point, we recognize that we can’t overcome this challenge alone. We need help! Sometimes, we are blessed to have someone to whom we can turn, but what if no one is available? God is always available to those who seek his counsel.
With God, all things are possible! Paul reminds us in Romans 8:31 If God is for us, who can be against us? If we back up one verse, and recognize that God foreknew us, predestined us, called us, justified us, and will glorify us (Romans 8:30). With this understanding, Paul comes to an undeniable conclusion: God must be for us. God must be for all of us who are in Christ by faith. What an amazing and life-changing thought. The one, true God, the creator of all things, is for us. With Him for us, who could ever possibly be against us?
Faithful God, Thank you for creating us. We are your children. You promise to be with us and provide for us always. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: We need not fear because God is with us in every situation.
Fear not, God is with us!! Pastor Liz
