Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

September 2, 2025

Proverbs 3:1-12

1 My son, don’t forget my instruction. Let your heart guard my commands, 2 because they will help you live a long time and provide you with well-being. 3 Don’t let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will find favor and approval in the eyes of God and humanity. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight. 7 Don’t consider yourself wise. Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8 Then your body will be healthy and your bones strengthened. 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first of all your crops. 10 Then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will burst with wine. 11 Don’t reject the instruction of the LORD, my son; don’t despise his correction. 12 The LORD loves those he corrects, just like a father who treats his son with favor.

Good Morning! Trust in the Lord with all your heart!

We are born into this world with a life before filled with possibilities. For those blessed to grow up in a Christian home, they learn of God’s Word and commandments. In any challenging situation that arises, they instinctively rely on what they know. Others do not receive this early instruction, but go seeking God through the encouragement of others.

Sometimes, as we grow into adulthood, we decide that we want to take charge and set our own rules and parameters. After all, we know how to make decisions for ourselves. For the lucky, this might work for a while. For others, troubles begin immediately.

Either way, we reach a point where what we know, or what we think we know, is not enough, and we realize that we are in over our heads. No one likes to admit when they are wrong or unsure of what to do next, but blessed are those who humble themselves and return to God. Trust in God with all your heart!

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We make mistakes when we think we know what is best. Thank you for welcoming us back when we admit our shortcomings. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: When we need guidance, place our concerns before God.

Trust God! Pastor Liz
