Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

September 13, 2025

Psalm 104:10-15

10 You put gushing springs into dry riverbeds. They flow between the mountains, 11 providing water for every wild animal the wild donkeys quench their thirst. 12 Overhead, the birds in the sky make their home, chirping loudly in the trees. 13 From your lofty house, you water the mountains. The earth is filled full by the fruit of what you’ve done. 14 You make grass grow for cattle; you make plants for human farming in order to get food from the ground, 15 and wine, which cheers people’s hearts, along with oil, which makes the face shine, and bread, which sustains the human heart. 24 LORD, you have done so many things! You made them all so wisely! The earth is full of your creations! 25 And then there’s the sea, wide and deep, with its countless creatures living things both small and large. 26

Good Morning! All things bright and beautiful, the Lord God made them all!

In the moments when we feel overwhelmed by the evil that persistently knocks at our hearts, you are with us. You provide us with daily signs to bring us out of the darkness and back into the light. You make all things new, all things possible. Where we see only a bleak, barren landscape, you see the potential for lush vegetation and thriving animals.

Not a day goes by that the news is not filled with tragedy. We, your children, feel lost and lonely at times. We struggle to see your goodness. Help us reignite the power of the Holy Spirit that is within us. Use us, Lord, to bring love and joy to those who are suffering.

For each act of violence, fill our hearts and minds with your strength so that we may provide love, peace, hope, and joy to the lost and weary.

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Evil seems to be growing! Help us harness and use the love which you give us to fight evil with the only greater power.   Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God speaks to us through creation.
