Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

September 14, 2025

1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

12 Brothers and sisters, we ask you to respect those who are working with you, leading you, and instructing you. 13 Think of them highly with love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are disorderly. Comfort the discouraged. Help the weak. Be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure no one repays a wrong with a wrong, but always pursue the good for each other and everyone else. 16 Rejoice always. 17 Pray continually. 18 Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Good Morning! Give thanks with a grateful heart!

This morning, as I sit and look at the beautiful sky, I pray to God. All around me is peaceful, yet I know that our world is broken. The news is filled with hate, violence, and divisiveness. I ask, “How long, O Lord?”

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, we read, “and if My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.” [Amp. Bible]

We are called to live in peace with one another. In our current social climate, this seems impossible. Truly, without God, it is not possible. We must set the example by turning towards God and loving one another, openly and boldly, so that all will see.

Through the love and grace of God, we can be saved. It will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy. One by one, piece by piece, others will join us in love. We, God’s children, can show the world the power of love through our thoughts, words, and deeds. We are to lead others to the light through our example.

16 Rejoice always. 17 Pray continually. 18 Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We are overwhelmed by the evil that surrounds us. Help us find the courage to stand against the powerful ones who lead others away from you. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: We can encourage others through our words and actions.

Rejoice! Pray! Give Thanks! Pastor Liz
