Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room
September 30, 2021
Read Romans 1:8-12
8 First of all, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because the news about your faithfulness is being spread throughout the whole world. 9 I serve God in my spirit by preaching the good news about God’s Son, and God is my witness that I continually mention you 10 in all my prayers. I’m always asking that somehow, by God’s will, I might succeed in visiting you at last. 11 I really want to see you to pass along some spiritual gift to you so that you can be strengthened. 12 What I mean is that we can mutually encourage each other while I am with you. We can be encouraged by the faithfulness we find in each other, both your faithfulness and mine.
Good Morning! It is a great day to praise our Lord!
As I gazed at the stars on this beautiful fall morning, I smiled and thanked God for blessing me. For the first time in my life, I am living in a home by myself (of course, Neon is with me), but I never feel alone or lonely because I am surrounded and supported by so many believers. When we choose to follow Christ, we immediately become part of the community of faith. Through this community, we love and nurture each other.
Paul lifts up this idea as he writes to the Romans. Even though he is not physically with them, he prays for them. Paul reminds us that when we are together we should encourage each other so that all may be lifted up in the faithfulness that we share together. Through these gatherings, we can learn as each person shares their gifts and talents. Prayers are given and prayers are answered as we grow to become one.
As the fellowship of believers grows, the light of Christ expands to the corners of the earth so that all may find their way to everlasting life. We are one body in Christ. This Sunday is World Communion Sunday, a day when all Christians around the world celebrate the body and blood of Christ together. There is no distinction as to race, culture, or traditions. The table is open to all who call Jesus their Lord and Savior. As you partake of the bread and wine this Sunday, open yourself to experiencing the joy and love that permeates the table of the Lord. Feast and Be Blessed in Jesus’ name.
Loving God, Thank You for loving us. It is time to open our hearts and minds to your love and mercy, so that we can serve you in our mission to gather all who are lost. May we gather with believers around the world as we feast at your table. Thank you for always being present with us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God will answer my prayers — sometimes when I least expect it.
All are Welcome to the table of our Lord! Pastor Liz
