Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 3, 2023
Psalm 139:7-10
7 Where could I go to get away from your spirit? Where could I escape your presence? 8 If I went to heaven, you would be there. If I went down to the grave, you would be there too! 9 If I could fly on the wings of the dawn, stopping to rest only on the far side of the ocean 10 Even there your hand would guide me; even there your strong hand would hold me tight!
Good Morning. Jesus is always with us!
We can never travel so far that God will not find us. In Matthew 18, we read the parable of the lost sheep. Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep to show that the Kingdom of God is accessible to all, even those who were sinners or strayed from God’s path. He uses the example of a shepherd (God) who has 100 sheep, and one goes missing. The shepherd leaves the 99 others and searches high and low for the lost sheep.
I resonate with the idea of God’s hand holding me tight. I think of those times when my parents held my hand as we traveled across a poorly lit path or through a crowd of people. I remember a scene in the movie Dr. Zhivago when Katya recalls how she came to be lost and recounts how the person she thought was her father let her hand go and left her side. I can imagine no greater fear than being alone in a crowd of unknown people.
God promises to be with us always. Whether we climb to the highest mountain or below the lowest valley, God will be by our side, holding our hand and guiding us back to the light. Our God is a mighty God who loves us so much that he gave his only son to die for our sins so that we might have eternal life. When you feel lost, call on Jesus, and he will find you.
Healing God, We love you! Sometimes, we feel lost in the crowd and need to hold your hand. Thank you for always being available to us. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Fear cannot separate me from God.
I once was lost, but now I’m found! Pastor Liz
