Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

Jeremiah 29:11-13

11 I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the LORD; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. 12 When you call me and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. 13 When you search for me, yes, search for me with all your heart, you will find me.

Good Morning! God makes all things beautiful in his time!

Imagine trying to understand calculus when you haven’t yet learned basic math. Learning anything is a process by which you methodically work through levels of skills and develop conceptual knowledge. This process must include both the physical and mental elements. You can’t learn to ride a bike by simply reading a how-to manual. At some point, you must get on the bike and learn to balance while you pedal to move forward. 

Our faith journey requires both physical and mental elements, but then we add spiritual aspects. We learn by reading the Bible and joining with others in community. We grow in faith as we go out and serve others. As we develop our relationship with God, our spiritual being grows. These three elements are not linear in their maturation process. 

Our struggles help strengthen us along our journey. When God determines we are ready, God reveals a segment of his plan for our lives. Sometimes, we listen and embrace this plan. Other times, we ignore or run away because we aren’t ready. 

God continues to nourish our spiritual being, and when we are ready, God reveals the pieces needed to complete the puzzle. From the beginning, God sees the big picture, but by his grace, we are allowed to twist and turn until the time comes for our transformation. 

Dear Lord, We are your children! We mistakenly think that we are in control of our lives. Thank you for allowing us to try things. Every piece of our lives is part of our puzzle. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
