Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 10, 2025
Psalm 46:1-11
1 God is our refuge and strength, a help always near in times of great trouble. 2 That’s why we won’t be afraid when the world falls apart, when the mountains crumble into the center of the sea, 3 when its waters roar and rage, when the mountains shake because of its surging waves. Selah 4 There is a river whose streams gladden God’s city, the holiest dwelling of the Most High. 5 God is in that city. It will never crumble. God will help it when morning dawns. 6 Nations roar; kingdoms crumble. God utters his voice; the earth melts. 7 The LORD of heavenly forces is with us! The God of Jacob is our place of safety. Selah 8 Come, see the LORD’s deeds, what devastation he has imposed on the earth 9 bringing wars to an end in every corner of the world, breaking the bow and shattering the spear, burning chariots with fire. 10 “That’s enough! Now know that I am God! I am exalted among all nations; I am exalted throughout the world!” 11 The LORD of heavenly forces is with us! The God of Jacob is our place of safety. Selah
Good Morning! God is our refuge and strength!
In my lifetime, I have heard many times that the end times are near. A couple of weeks ago, someone said that September 23 would be the rapture, but it did not come. We are justified in our feeling that our world is falling apart with the violence and division that surrounds us. If we choose to focus on the evil, then it becomes hard to see any chance of recovery.
Our God is a mighty God! A God of love! Our creator who blesses us abundantly. We are given choices: to live our best life in the light of Christ or a life of despair as we stumble in the darkness. 6 Nations roar; kingdoms crumble. God utters his voice; the earth melts.
Despite all the chaos and mess that we create, God will prevail.
Through Christ, our Lord, we see the glory when the blind see, the deaf hear, and the dead live again. The lame leap, the dumb speak, the praise of the lamb! All these are glorious signs of a resurrection people! We are blessed with the opportunity to live our best life in the light of Christ, our redeemer.
The prophet Isaiah says, “But only the redeemed will walk there, and those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.”
This is what it means to choose to live life with Christ. May we all aspire to such a choice as living our best lives.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Why do we struggle with this choice? We are weak and easily lost in the mess. O God, help us to find our way to You. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: The choice is ours: life and blessings or death and curses!
Jesus redeems all who come to Him! Pastor Liz
