Morning Devotional 101423 Start a Ripple of Kindness

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

October 14, 2023

Psalm 4:1-8

1 Answer me when I cry out, my righteous God! Set me free from my troubles! Have mercy on me! Listen to my prayer! 2 How long, you people, will my reputation be insulted? How long will you continue to love what is worthless and go after lies? Selah 3 Know this: the LORD takes personal care of the faithful. The LORD will hear me when I cry out to him. 4 So be afraid, and don’t sin! Think hard about it in your bed and weep over it! Selah 5 Bring righteous offerings, and trust the LORD! 6 Many people say, “We can’t find goodness anywhere. The light of your face has left us, LORD!” 7 But you have filled my heart with more joy than when their wheat and wine are everywhere! 8 I will lie down and fall asleep in peace because you alone, LORD, let me live in safety.

Good Morning. Stand up and Bless the Lord!

Each time we turn on the TV or follow social media, we struggle to find any goodness left in the world, and we struggle to see the light of Christ. Like David, we don’t understand why people are so mean and hateful to each other. There are so many lost and troubled souls. How can we continue?

7 But you have filled my heart with more joy than when their wheat and wine are everywhere! 8 I will lie down and fall asleep in peace because you alone, LORD, let me live in safety.

Those who confess their sins and believe in the Lord will be saved. We are called to trust and obey. 18 The Lord watches over those who obey him, those who trust in his constant love. Psalm 33:18

God knows us intimately and gives grace and mercy to those who believe. When we are surrounded by so much strife, it is easy to fall into despair. We must let go of our fears and look for what is good, what is lovely, and what is holy. We should begin and end each day with a prayer of thankfulness and lift our praises to God. We must treat others with kindness to begin a ripple of kindness that can move across our land.

Awesome God, We love you! We, your children, are broken. There is so much violence and hate in our world. Help us to show others the way to Christ and redemption. Thank you. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Start a ripple of kindness today.

Children of God: love one another! Pastor Liz
