Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 15, 2025
Psalm 34:15-22
15 The LORD’s eyes watch the righteous, his ears listen to their cries for help. 16 But the LORD’s face is set against those who do evil, to eliminate even the memory of them from the earth. 17 When the righteous cry out, the LORD listens; he delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he saves those whose spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous have many problems, but the LORD delivers them from every one. 20 He protects all their bones; not even one will be broken. 21 But just one problem will kill the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be held responsible. 22 The LORD saves his servants’ lives; all those who take refuge in him won’t be held responsible for anything.
Good Morning! The Lord is close to the brokenhearted!
As a collector of knick-knacks, I have become somewhat adept at reattaching broken pieces. It’s funny how something as small as a sheep’s ear from your favorite nativity set manages to get broken off. I have learned how to line up the broken edges so that the brokenness is hardly noticeable even when closely inspected. Sometimes those small pieces get lost, and I can’t reattach them.
God is the gatherer of our broken pieces (even the ones we think we’ve lost), and especially the ones unseen by others. Our broken hearts and broken spirits can only be seen by the one who can see beyond our outside coverings and into our souls. Through the Holy Spirit, God is at work mending and soothing our brokenness. By God’s grace, all our broken pieces are reattached so that we may join together in hope, peace, joy, and love.
God saves all who take refuge in His Holy Name. God’s power overcomes all the evil that tries to slip in under the cover of darkness. God is waiting for us to release ourselves from our struggles and focus on the light of Jesus.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Thank you for gathering our lost pieces and recreating us in your image. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: The Lord heals our brokenness.
No matter how lost, God finds us. Pastor Liz
