Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  October 19, 2024

1 Peter 4:7-11

7 The end of everything has come. Therefore, be self-controlled and clearheaded so you can pray. 8 Above all, show sincere love to each other, because love brings about the forgiveness of many sins. 9 Open your homes to each other without complaining. 10 And serve each other according to the gift each person has received, as good managers of God’s diverse gifts. 11 Whoever speaks should do so as those who speak God’s word. Whoever serves should do so from the strength that God furnishes. Do this so that in everything God may be honored through Jesus Christ. To him be honor and power forever and always. Amen.

Good Morning! To God be the Glory!

In all things, praise God as you use your God-given gifts to share God’s word with the world. It is easy to get so focused on our own agendas that we don’t notice the things we can do for others.

We also have a tendency to do things out of obligation rather than serving others out of love. Do we willingly open our homes, calendars, or lives to Christ? How do our attitudes change depending on who we are being asked to serve?

Hosting a prestigious event is easier than spending time washing dishes in a soup kitchen. Jesus walked among the outcasts and the least of these, not the well-dressed Pharisees and well-to-do.

To lovingly serve God means we must drop our earthly trappings and see all of God’s children as equally worthy of God’s love.

Dear Lord, We are your children! Help us see one another through Your eyes of love and mercy. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God equips us to follow the way of Jesus.

Serve one another! Pastor Liz
