Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  October 20, 2024

Psalm 34:1-7

1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise will always be in my mouth. 2 I praise the LORD let the suffering listen and rejoice. 3 Magnify the LORD with me! Together let us lift his name up high! 4 I sought the LORD and he answered me. He delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to God will shine; their faces are never ashamed. 6 This suffering person cried out: the LORD listened and saved him from every trouble. 7 On every side, the LORD’s messenger protects those who honor God; and he delivers them.

Good Morning! Lift the name of Jesus to all!

This morning, the sky is glowing with a beautiful golden hue. The leaves outside my window seem locked in place. Dawn is so special to me because I can anticipate the unexpected blessings of a new day. As the rising sun approaches, suddenly, the birds begin to dot the sky, welcoming the new day like a trumpet fanfare filling the air. I smile because I know the Lord, God, made them all.

What do you see when you look around? Do you see God’s glory, or do you see the dirt and scourge of evil? Those who look through cynical eyes will validate the evil they seek, but those who look through the eyes of Christ will find beauty and goodness surrounding them.

On this Lord’s day, look for what is good and holy, and let God’s glory surround and fill your thoughts. 5 Those who look to God will shine; their faces are never ashamed.

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings

Bear you on the breath of dawn

Make you to shine like the sun

And hold you in the palm of His hand

Dear Lord, We are your children! Help us see one another through Your eyes of love and mercy. You surround us with beauty. May we follow the light of Jesus. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Look and See God!
