Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 22, 2025
Titus 3:1-8
1 Remind them to submit to rulers and authorities. They should be obedient and ready to do every good thing. 2 They shouldn’t speak disrespectfully about anyone, but they should be peaceful, kind, and show complete courtesy toward everyone. 3 We were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, and slaves to our desires and various pleasures too. We were spending our lives in evil behavior and jealousy. We were disgusting, and we hated other people. 4 But “when God our savior’s kindness and love appeared, 5 he saved us because of his mercy, not because of righteous things we had done. He did it through the washing of new birth and the renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 which God poured out upon us generously through Jesus Christ our savior. 7 So, since we have been made righteous by his grace, we can inherit the hope for eternal life.” 8 This saying is reliable. And I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have come to believe in God might give careful attention to doing good. These things are good and useful for everyone.
Good Morning! By God’s mercy, we are saved.
7 So, since we have been made righteous by his grace,
we can inherit the hope for eternal life.”
By God’s amazing grace, we are offered a new life: a life with Christ, a life filled with hope. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we should give thanks in all things and allow ourselves to be transformed into the beings God created us to be.
Paul is reminding us that before accepting Christ, we were foolish, disobedient, deceived, and slaves to our desires and various pleasures, and we were living in the darkness that breeds such behaviors.
Through Christ, we are brought into the light, and our previous selves have died. It is time to embrace our new life fully. We do this by being obedient and ready to do every good thing. 2 They shouldn’t speak disrespectfully about anyone, but they should be peaceful, kind, and show complete courtesy toward everyone.
We are not capable of all this on our own, so God sent the Holy Spirit to help us overcome our iniquities and walk a life of righteousness. When we stumble on this path, God is there to forgive us when we ask for mercy.
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! We are weak, but through You we are strong. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Be peaceful, kind, and show complete courtesy to all!
Give thanks with a grateful heart. Pastor Liz
