Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 23, 2023
Matthew 7:7-10
7 “Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door is opened. 9 Who among you will give your children a stone when they ask for bread? 10 Or give them a snake when they ask for fish? 11 If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him. 12 Therefore, you should treat people in the same way that you want people to treat you; this is the Law and the Prophets.
Good Morning. All good gifts come from heaven above.
“Pride comes before the fall.” Oh, that darn pride can cause us so much grief. Those consumed with pride, arrogance, and inflated egos can’t imagine asking or seeking help. Surely, they can find the answer themselves. We all encounter these thoughts at some point in our lives. We even think, “I created this mess; I can get myself out of it.”
Sadly, the stronger we independently believe we are and the higher we elevate ourselves, the bigger our eventual fall. Jesus tells us in Luke 14:11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Without God, we are weak. By the grace of God, we become strong.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God. And His righteousness and all these things Shall be added unto you, Allelu, alleluia. Ask, and it shall be given unto you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened unto you, Allelu, alleluia.
Awesome God, We love you! Sometimes, we forget that through you, we are strong, and we try to prove our own worth. Thank you for catching us when we fall. Thank you for loving us. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God will provide for me like a loving parent.
Ask! Seek! Knock! Repeat! Pastor Liz
