Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
October 25, 2025
2 Timothy 3:10-17
10 But you have paid attention to my teaching, conduct, purpose, faithfulness, patience, love, and endurance. 11 You have seen me experience physical abuse and ordeals in places such as Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. I put up with all sorts of abuse, and the Lord rescued me from it all! 12 In fact, anyone who wants to live a holy life in Christ Jesus will be harassed. 13 But evil people and swindlers will grow even worse, as they deceive others while being deceived themselves. 14 But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. 15 Since childhood, you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus. 16 Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, 17 so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.
Good Morning! God equips us to do everything that is good!
One of our challenges as people is to take time to nourish our souls purposefully. John Wesley often asked his clergy and laypeople, “How is it with your soul?” When put on the spot, the easy response is, “Everything is fine!”
But is everything fine? Are we deceiving ourselves or denying our deepest woes? Sometimes it is easier to repress our negative thoughts and feelings. The problem comes when an unexpected challenge happens. We have a scary medical diagnosis, our jobs or lives become unstable, or we lose a loved one, and suddenly all of those “other” things we’ve buried erupt from our hidden innermost crevices.
God knows all our pain and sorrow and is waiting to help us, but we must admit our struggles and ask for help. For many of us, this is hard to do! It sounds strange, but it is easier to carry our burdens than to release them to God.
When we spend time with God each day, we develop a relationship that allows us to share our authentic selves rather than presenting the public persona we think God and others want to see. To receive God’s peace, we must let down our guard and allow the Holy Spirit to wash away our worries and anxiety.
Trust God and Be Blessed!
Loving Lord, you bless us abundantly! Help us to let go and allow you to fill us with your peace. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Take time to nourish my mind, body, and spirit daily.
Trust God and be blessed. Pastor Liz
