Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
November 23, 2025
Matthew 7:7-12
7 “Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door is opened. 9 Who among you will give your children a stone when they ask for bread? 10 Or give them a snake when they ask for fish? 11 If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him. 12 Therefore, you should treat people in the same way that you want people to treat you; this is the Law and the Prophets.
Good Morning! Jesus loves us!
Ask, and you will receive!
I have found myself in situations when or where I was afraid to ask. If we ask for help, then we are admitting that we can’t do it on our own. If we ask for more, we have this inner guilt telling us that we don’t deserve more. Too many times, we perceive those who ask for things as weak, so we don’t ask, which means we don’t receive the desired response.
This scenario is especially true when it comes to our relationship with God. We are too proud to admit that we need God's support during our time of trouble. Most of us believe we are undeserving of any additional blessings, so we miss the opportunity because we don’t ask.
Think about the age-old story of refusing to stop and ask for directions when we’re lost. One quick stop and we’re on the right road, and we reach our destination. On our spiritual journeys, we often need directions, and God is waiting to help us. Even if we read the Bible (our roadmap), we sometimes find ourselves stuck in the mud or at a dead end. God is waiting to answer those who ask for help, so put aside your pride and ask. You will be abundantly blessed.
Lord, you bless us abundantly! We are your proud children. Help us humble ourselves so that we can ask for help when needed. Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: When we make a wrong turn, God is waiting to show us the way home.
Ask, and you shall receive! Pastor Liz
