Morning Devotional 112721 To Important to Forget

Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

November 27, 2021

Read Isaiah 49:13-18

13 Sing, heavens! Rejoice, earth! Break out, mountains, with a song. The LORD has comforted his people, and taken pity on those who suffer. 14 But Zion says, “The LORD has abandoned me; my Lord has forgotten me.” 15 Can a woman forget her nursing child, fail to pity the child of her womb? Even these may forget, but I won’t forget you. 16 Look, on my palms I’ve inscribed you; your walls are before me continually. 17 Your builders come quickly; those who destroy and demolish you will depart from you. 18 Look up all around and see: they are all gathered; they come to you. As surely as I live, says the LORD, you will put them all on like ornaments, bind them on like a bride.

Good Morning! Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

This trip to Indiana has been a blessing in so many ways. The times we spend together with family are so comforting and uplifting. Even when I’m gone for long periods of time, the moment that I arrive I feel as if I’ve always been right there. These bonds among family tie us together in special ways.

When we acknowledge Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the same bonds develop. God’s love and mercy transcend time and space so that we are always together. Verse 16 from this passage is special to me because it creates this amazing visual image. I envision my name there beside the names of my brothers and sisters in Christ for all times.

I don’t write on my hand very often, but anytime that I have it was because there was something very important that I didn’t want to forget. When you write on your hand, it fades or washes away over time. Our names are etched on God’s hand and will be there forever because we are forever important to God.

With the image of Our hands I also love the idea that my hands are part of me. When I feel alone, I can gaze at my own hands and remember God. I can clasp my hands together and sing out to God in prayer. I can hold the hand of a loved one and feel God working among us to strengthen the bonds of love that will follow me always.

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. When we are unsure, may we remember that we are so important to you that we are inscribed upon your hands forevermore. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God’s presence in my life means I am never truly alone.

Rejoice for we are loved by our Creator! Pastor Liz
