Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 3, 2025
John 13:12-17
12 After he washed the disciples’ feet, he put on his robes and returned to his place at the table. He said to them, “Do you know what I’ve done for you? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you speak correctly, because I am. 14 If I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you too must wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example: Just as I have done, you also must do. 16 I assure you, servants aren’t greater than their master, nor are those who are sent greater than the one who sent them. 17 Since you know these things, you will be happy if you do them.
Good Morning! Blessed are those who serve!
Jesus calls us to serve one another. Throughout his earthly ministry, he modeled servanthood. He loved and led his disciples with humility in all things.
One of those earthly ideals is to become the best you can be. This is a powerful and meaningful goal to which many aspire. The challenge is to avoid pride in our rise to the top. It is easy for us to elevate ourselves as we become more important in society.
Jesus, the Messiah, taught a new way to lead. He was the model of gentleness, compassion, and acceptance for all God’s children. He shared with us the difficulty the rich and powerful face in entering God’s kingdom. All are welcome, but we must be willing to leave behind all those earthly treasures, especially those that place us above others.
Blessed are those who love everyone and place their needs before their own, for they will be welcomed as good and faithful servants.
Lord, you bless us abundantly! Earthly standards equate success with power. Thank you for sending Jesus to teach us humility. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Follow Jesus’ example by giving my time and energy to serve others.
Show love to all! Pastor Liz
