Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
December 8, 2024
1 John 4:7-12
7 Dear friends, let’s love each other, because love is from God, and everyone who loves is born from God and knows God. 8 The person who doesn’t love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how the love of God is revealed to us: God has sent his only Son into the world so that we can live through him. 10 This is love: it is not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son as the sacrifice that deals with our sins. 11 Dear friends, if God loved us this way, we also ought to love each other. 12 No one has ever seen God. If we love each other, God remains in us and his love is made perfect in us.
Good Morning! Love one another because love is from God.
On this second Sunday of Advent, let us take time and consider God’s love for us. In this time of preparation, all that we do is founded in the love of God, represented by the baby whose birth we await.
We are called to love all people for all time. We are not called to judge others. It is easy to think we know who God will receive on judgment day. We are all sinners who fall short of the mark. God's grace will save all who believe and call Jesus their Lord and Savior.
As John Wesley said when we realized this, “Even me?!?” “Yes!” Each of us is made worthy by Christ who died for our sins. We will make mistakes along our journey, but those who humble themselves and ask forgiveness will be granted eternal life.
We do not know when the day will come, so we should act today. God is waiting to welcome us home.
Loving Lord, We are your children! You grant us grace and forgive our sins. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Because God loves us, love others!
Share God’s love! Pastor Liz
