Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

2 Corinthians 1:2-7
3 May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be blessed! He is the compassionate Father and God of all comfort. 4 He’s the one who comforts us in all our trouble so that we can comfort other people who are in every kind of trouble. We offer the same comfort that we ourselves received from God. 5 That is because we receive so much comfort through Christ in the same way that we share so many of Christ’s sufferings. 6 So if we have trouble, it is to bring you comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is to bring you comfort from the experience of endurance while you go through the same sufferings that we also suffer. 7 Our hope for you is certain because we know that as you are partners in suffering, so also you are partners in comfort.
Good Morning. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!
God is our comforter and our redeemer. Christ teaches us to share all that we are given. When we share in fellowship, we can provide support and comfort for those in need. Likewise, those around us can support and comfort us when we are in need.
We are not meant to live our lives alone. God’s design for us is founded in relationships. We are one body and one family. Through the ties that bind us together comes strength. Each of us is blessed with different gifts so that within the body of Christ, all needs can/will be met. The old saying “there is strength in numbers” is nowhere more true than within the body of believers.
If we could only speak, how would we hear the cries of the needy? If we focus on our strength, might we crush the weak who fall beneath our feet? All are needed to complete the whole: the strong, the weak, the listeners, the speakers, the singers, the artists, the bakers, the innovators . . . the young, the middle-aged, and the old: EVERYONE!

Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Open our hearts so that we may love and comfort all of Your children. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
