Morning Devotional 122124 Accept the Joy!

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  December 21, 2024

Psalm 16:5-11

5 You, LORD, are my portion, my cup; you control my destiny. 6 The property lines have fallen beautifully for me; yes, I have a lovely home. 7 I will bless the LORD who advises me; even at night I am instructed in the depths of my mind. 8 I always put the LORD in front of me; I will not stumble because he is on my right side. 9 That’s why my heart celebrates and my mood is joyous; yes, my whole body will rest in safety 10 because you won’t abandon my life to the grave; you won’t let your faithful follower see the pit. 11 You teach me the way of life. In your presence is total celebration. Beautiful things are always in your right hand.

Good Morning! Open your hearts and minds to joy!

How is it with your soul? The big day is getting so close. Are you feeling stress or joy? Even if there is much left to do, take time to breathe and give thanks.

I remember hearing that if you wait for the right time to start a family, you will never start your family because there is always a reason to wait. Well, the baby is coming! Are we ready?

What barriers are blocking your joy? God abundantly provides for all our needs, yet we struggle to find the hope, peace, joy, and love of the Advent season. We place so many earthly demands upon ourselves that we can barely move.

I think of David when he was preparing to face Goliath. The soldiers gave him their armor and swords to protect him, but they were too big, bulky, and heavy. He could barely take a step. Those earthly things offered in good faith were a hindrance instead of helpful.

We must cast aside our big, bulky, heavy expectations, and live into this precious time. Prepare for welcoming Christ as you embrace the simplicity of standing in the stable and peering upon the glow of a newborn baby.

The Lord blesses our souls beyond measure. Joy is given to all who come!

Loving Lord, We are your children! Sometimes, we make things so much harder than they have to be. Help us remember to approach Christmas with simplicity. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Relax! God is with us! Now and Forevermore!

Accept the Joy God offers! Pastor Liz
