Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

January 5, 2026

2 Timothy 4:5-8

5 But you must keep control of yourself in all circumstances. Endure suffering, do the work of a preacher of the good news, and carry out your service fully. 6 I’m already being poured out like a sacrifice to God, and the time of my death is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. 8 At last, the champion’s wreath that is awarded for righteousness is waiting for me. The Lord, who is the righteous judge, is going to give it to me on that day. He’s giving it not only to me but also to all those who have set their heart on waiting for his appearance.

Good Morning! Be joyful to the end!

Endurance and persistence are necessary in our faith journey. We do not choose suffering, but suffering finds us and puts us to the test. I believe each challenge builds me up so that I am ready to face the next obstacle that blocks my path.

Throughout the Bible, we read of ordinary people who overcome impossible odds to carry out God’s plan. All who choose to be God’s servants will be fortified with the Holy Spirit, who works continuously to renew our drive to move forward.

No matter how improbable our victory, we are called to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep our faith. Jesus never promised that the journey would be easy, but he did promise the unimaginable glory awaiting those who persevere.

God promises to be with us each step of the way. By God’s grace, I know that I can carry on even in my moments of doubt. Our God is an awesome God!

Redeeming Lord, you bless us abundantly! We thank you for choosing us to be your light in the world. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Thought for the day: God gives us the strength to persevere.

Praising God with every breath I breathe! Pastor Liz
