Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 8, 2026
Hebrews 11:1-6
1 Faith is the reality of what we hope for, the proof of what we don’t see. 2 The elders in the past were approved because they showed faith. 3 By faith we understand that the universe has been created by a word from God so that the visible came into existence from the invisible. 4 By faith, Abel offered a better sacrifice to God than Cain, which showed that he was righteous, since God gave approval to him for his gift. Though he died, he’s still speaking through faith. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he didn’t see death, and he wasn’t found because God took him up. He was given approval for having pleased God before he was taken up. 6 It’s impossible to please God without faith because the one who draws near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards people who try to find him.
Good Morning! Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise!
As children, we consider our hopes and dreams for the future. Who would hope for a bike if they already have a bike? Who would dream of becoming a doctor if they are already one? No, we hope and dream for things that are beyond our reach.
When God sent Christ to walk among us, we learned new ways to consider our faith journey. Through his parables, Jesus taught us about God's love and mercy. Through his death and resurrection, he taught us of God’s power and grace.
Our faith allows us to see glimmers of our future life of glory with God. God is faithful to us for all time, and will provide all we need to live a life of faith. Each morning is a new opportunity to share God’s love with others.
Redeeming Lord, you bless us abundantly! You created us in your image. Help us to live into the being you lovingly made. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Faith allows us to reach for eternal glory.
Set aside your doubts, and believe in God’s plan! Pastor Liz
