Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

January 20, 2022

Read Psalm 91:9-16

9 Because you’ve made the LORD my refuge, the Most High, your place of residence 10 no evil will happen to you; no disease will come close to your tent. 11 Because he will order his messengers to help you, to protect you wherever you go. 12 They will carry you with their own hands so you don’t bruise your foot on a stone. 13 You’ll march on top of lions and vipers; you’ll trample young lions and serpents underfoot. 14 God says, “Because you are devoted to me, I’ll rescue you. I’ll protect you because you know my name. 15 Whenever you cry out to me, I’ll answer. I’ll be with you in troubling times. I’ll save you and glorify you. 16 I’ll fill you full with old age. I’ll show you my salvation.”

Good Morning! Fear not, I am with you! So, be not dismayed!

After months with very little precipitation, January has been a month full of active weather patterns producing a variety of precipitation. We’ve had snow, sleet, ice, and rain over the past couple of weeks. If I were a meteorologist, I think I would enjoy the challenge of predicting weather when there were so many possibilities.

Our lives resemble the weather patterns. Sometimes everything is calm and predictable, but other times it seems changes are happening so fast that we can’t prepare. Just like the unexpected weather that leaves us without milk and bread versus the storm for which we are prepared as we wipe out the grocery store shelves.

God promises to be with us and to support us during those stormy times in our lives. All we have to do is to call out and ask for help. God will save us! It’s funny, but I wouldn’t want to live a life where I always know what is going to happen next. It sounds good, but when things are too predictable, we risk becoming complacent. With complacence comes the desire to sit and wait. We are called to be doers of the Word: to reach out and share God with the world. Change is often the impetus to push us into action. Do not be afraid, God protects those in need.

Creator God, Thank You for loving us. It’s easy to sit and wait for everything to take care of itself. Help us remember that we are to be the doers who can change the world. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: God is with me through tempests and struggle, offering peace.

Embrace the change! Pastor Liz
