Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

January 30, 2022

Read Psalm 25:1-7

1 I offer my life to you, LORD. 2 My God, I trust you. Please don’t let me be put to shame! Don’t let my enemies rejoice over me! 3 For that matter, don’t let anyone who hopes in you be put to shame; instead, let those who are treacherous without excuse be put to shame. 4 Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth—teach it to me because you are the God who saves me. I put my hope in you all day long. 6 LORD, remember your compassion and faithful love they are forever! 7 But don’t remember the sins of my youth or my wrongdoing. Remember me only according to your faithful love for the sake of your goodness, LORD.

Good Morning! My life is in your hands!

Have you ever wondered if God is listening to you? Throughout eternity, there are many who don’t believe in the existence of God or any supreme being, but over these past two years, there are those who have questioned why God would allow the CoronaVirus to continue to spread upon the earth.

Do you remember your prayers to God in your childhood? As young children, we are most inclined to offer prayers of thankfulness as we learn to say grace. With our bedtime prayers, we thank God for our loved ones and ask for safe sleep. As we get older, we start to ask God for things like helping us pass a test or win a ballgame. When we fail the test or lose the game, we believe that God isn’t listening. Some even begin to doubt God and fall out of their prayer routine. All the while, God is waiting for his lost children to return. God continues to place reminders in the path of the lost, so that they may find their way home.

God wants to be in a relationship with all of us. A relationship is a two-way connection through which we speak, listen, and share. In order to fulfill the request of David in today’s Psalm (4 Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth—teach it to me because you are the God who saves me.) we must be mature in our faith as we not only ask for things but that we listen and look for God’s signs to lead us along our path.

I see another paradox. We should love and trust God fully as only a child can do, but at the same time, we must listen intently to hear God in ways that only a mature Christian can do. We listen not for specific answers to specific requests, but we listen as God moves us towards our destination of eternal life.

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. When we are children, we share our love with you, When we are teens, we question you. Help us be the adults who engage in a continuous relationship with you as we move along our journey. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Today I will talk to God as I go about my daily tasks.
