Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 30, 2026
1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Therefore, humble yourselves under God’s power so that he may raise you up in the last day. 7 Throw all your anxiety onto him, because he cares about you.
Good Morning! Cast your anxiety on God!
Anxiety can be a crippling affliction, causing a myriad of health problems. It can start as a small worry that grows exponentially with every little challenge. For me, it is essential for me to name my worry when it is still in its infancy.
Once I identify it, I can begin to pray and work to give it to God. Admittedly, my ability to do this is a work in progress, but I’m getting better at it. As a younger person, my stubbornness or pride got in the way of the identification process. If you can’t admit the anxiety exists, then it sits there and festers.
Over the course of many failures and almost wins, I have learned to recognize the triggers that initiate worrying, like uncertainty, fear, and doubt, and I humble myself and invite God to share in my struggles from the beginning. As I progress through this process, I remind myself to breathe and say a quick prayer before approaching the metaphorical barrier I have constructed.
Thanks be to God who loves us as we are, and is with us, ready to cast a net to catch us when we fall.
Redeeming Lord, you bless us abundantly! Help us let go of our worries so that we may approach life full of joy. Thank you. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Trust God to lead us through our troubles.
God is our safety net when we fall! Pastor Liz
