Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
January 31, 2025
Hebrews 11:1-3
1 Faith is the reality of what we hope for, the proof of what we don’t see. 2 The elders in the past were approved because they showed faith. 3 By faith we understand that the universe has been created by a word from God so that the visible came into existence from the invisible.
Good Morning. Believe in the God who created all things!
Faith is the reality of what we hope for . . . What do we hope for? Do we waste our time hoping for things we already have? No! Do we limit hope to what we can conceive in our minds? Sometimes! Do we believe in the things that are beyond earthly parameters? Maybe! This is where faith begins.
Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Faith is taking the first step even though you don’t see the whole staircase.” That is hard for most of us! We want to see where we are being led. Indiana Jones movies come to my mind. What if we are called to cross one of those rickety bridges like in the movie? Can we take the first step?
Helen Keller said, "Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light." When we see chaos and brokenness surrounding us, we must gather every ounce of faith within us to find the strength to emerge from the darkness and enter Christ's light.
Faith is the essence of the Christian! Without faith, we cannot proclaim a risen savior! We build our faith over a lifetime, including struggles, successes, joy, and grief.
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian,
Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs
To Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him,
The Help of all who find,
None other is so loving,
So good and kind.
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You love us! We struggle with our faith when we are surrounded by darkness and evil. Nudge us toward the light when we feel lost and afraid. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God can see a way forward, even when we cannot.
Have Faith! Take the next step! Pastor Liz
