Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
February 6, 2024
Ephesians 6:17-20
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word. 18 Offer prayers and petitions in the Spirit all the time. Stay alert by hanging in there and praying for all believers. 19 As for me, pray that when I open my mouth, I’ll get a message that confidently makes this secret plan of the gospel known. 20 I’m an ambassador in chains for the sake of the gospel. Pray so that the Lord will give me the confidence to say what I have to say.
Good Morning! Turn your eyes upon Jesus!
I am a longtime fan of Star Trek. Growing up in my house, Friday night was grocery night, and it was a family event. We would go to town to shop and then get home just in time to watch the new episode. Those episodes are so corny now, but at the time, they whisked to a land and time far away. As I watched, I marveled at the technology and imagined a day we would have those things. It’s funny how many unimaginable things have come into existence, but I’m still waiting for the transporter to become available. Energize!
The officers of the Enterprise had a communication device on their clothing that they tapped and talked to others. Imagine being able to talk whenever you want and wherever you are. Well, talking to God is like that; it doesn’t take tapping a special device. When we accept Christ, God sends the Holy Spirit to be within us. To talk to God is as simple as speaking; imagine a voice-activated communication device with a hotline to God.
Guess what? We have no bills to pay for this service because Christ has already paid our bills to infinity and beyond. The only hidden costs are to love God and love one another. What is the first thing we do when we have a new device? We try out all of the features, but sometimes, we get bogged down when we can’t figure out how to do something. The Holy Spirit is equipped to lead us through all our struggles and help us navigate through all the available features.
Take a minute and try it out! “Hey God! Do you have a minute?” “Thank you, God!” “I love you, Lord!” “Help me, I’m scared!” God is listening! Just talk!
Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. Sometimes, we forget how easy it is to talk to you. Thank you for always listening. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Honor God with praise, prayers, and thankfulness each day.
Just talk! Energize! Pastor Liz
