Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
Feb. 12, 2025
Proverbs 3:5-8
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. 6 Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight. 7 Don’t consider yourself wise. Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8 Then your body will be healthy and your bones strengthened.
Good Morning. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet!
Wisdom is something to which we aspire. Sometimes, we equate wisdom to age. The more years we live, the more wise we become. Perhaps, as we age, we are more likely to consider all the things we have learned along the way before jumping into a situation feet first.
I remember a sketch from a comedian who began with, “I thought I would know more by now . . .” He went on to list things he couldn’t understand, like why jello doesn’t return to a liquid when removed from the refrigerator. Knowing this will not solve the world’s problems, but it is an interesting quandary.
There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. There is also a difference between earthly knowledge/wisdom and heavenly knowledge/wisdom. The hardest part for many of us is accepting the fact that there are things we don’t understand, but God calls us to believe and have faith.
We like to quantify and label things. God gave us the task of naming and caring for all living things. The problem arises when we encounter things that are so unfathomable that we can’t make sense of them. That is when our doubt begins. Whenever we become focused on the how, what, when, where, or who, we lose sight of the why.
We must always begin with the why. God loves us! Instead of asking, “How can that be possible?” We should say, “This is possible because God loves us!”
Isn’t it funny that we, the ones who complained when we had to show our work in math class, now complain when we can’t see all of the intricate details of God’s plan? God’s plan supersedes all earthly-based plans.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! You love us! Help us let go of things that are not in our control. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: In difficult moments, give thanks for God’s blessings.
Trust God’s wisdom! Pastor Liz
