Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
March 5, 2026
Psalm 23:1-6
1 The LORD is my shepherd. I lack nothing. 2 He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters; 3 he keeps me alive. He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no danger because you are with me. Your rod and your staff they protect me. 5 You set a table for me right in front of my enemies. You bathe my head in oil; my cup is so full it spills over! 6 Yes, goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the LORD’s house as long as I live.
Good Morning, surely the goodness and mercy of the Lord will follow us always.
Psalm 23 is often read at funerals because it brings us comfort. Within six verses, we remember that God provides for our needs, including security, guides us on our journey, and restores us when we are weary.
Psalm 23 offers stability when our lives feel unsteady or out of control. The words do not say that we will not have challenges, but that during our challenges, God, the Good Shepherd, will be with us.
Finally, the Psalm assures us that the valleys of our lives are not our destination, simply a stop along the journey. Because Jesus laid down His life and took it up again, the valley is never the end of our story.
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! Thank you for shepherding us through our journey of faith. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Find time today to rest in the presence of our Savior.
God loves us! Pastor Liz
