Liz’s Morning Devotional based upon Upper Room

March 10, 2022

Read Luke 8:49-56

49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue leader’s house, saying to Jairus, “Your daughter has died. Don’t bother the teacher any longer.” 50 When Jesus heard this, he responded, “Don’t be afraid; just keep trusting, and she will be healed.” 51 When he came to the house, he didn’t allow anyone to enter with him except Peter, John, and James, and the child’s father and mother. 52 They were all crying and mourning for her, but Jesus said, “Don’t cry. She isn’t dead. She’s only sleeping.” 53 They laughed at him because they knew she was dead. 54 Taking her hand, Jesus called out, “Child, get up.” 55 Her life returned and she got up at once. He directed them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were beside themselves with joy, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.

Good Morning! Trust and believe in Jesus!

What a great follow-up passage to yesterday’s discussion on prayer! We decided that there is no right or wrong way to pray in regards to our physical self. We also said that we must simply pray earnestly and in faith. Now let’s talk about how often and what we say.

Think about those conversations that you had as a child with your parents, or maybe one of your parents. Those conversations when you felt free to share everything in your life (before you became a teenager). I was a talker if you can imagine, and I didn’t just share the big things as headline news does, I shared everything. Perhaps my parents wished that they could turn the constant flow, but they listened intently to all I had to share. I’m sure that much of what I had to say was insignificant to the grand scheme of things, but it wasn’t about my words, it was about sharing together.

That is how it is with God! God wants to be in a relationship with us and share in every part of our lives. As a loving parent, God will listen intently to all we have to share, the big things, the small things, the happy things, and the sad things. God is never too busy to stop and listen. No child of God is unimportant, and like those children who share everything with their parents, God calls us to talk and share our lives.

Prayer is simply talking to God! Share freely and rejoice in living as a child without the worries that accompany being “grown”. God is happy to listen and accept our troubles, our worries, and our anxieties. No thought is too insignificant to share with our creator! After all, God already knows. In sharing, we can be free! Rejoice! Rejoice! Again I say rejoice!

“When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.” Psalm 91:15

Loving God, Thank You for loving us. We are working to share ourselves fully with You, but sometimes we have things we don’t want to admit. Help us know that no matter what, You love us, and You are always with us. Thank you for always loving us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Through prayer and praise, I can share my daily life with God.

Share your lives with God! Pastor Liz
