Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
March 20, 2023
Read Psalm 28:1-9
6 Bless the LORD because he has listened to my request for mercy! 7 The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts him. I was helped, my heart rejoiced, and I thank him with my song. 8 The LORD is his people’s strength; he is a fortress of protection for his anointed one. 9 Save your people, God! Bless your possession! Shepherd them and carry them for all time!
Good Morning, The Lord is our strength and shield.
Most of us have things that make us very nervous or worried. We work to find a strategy to help us through the butterflies in our stomachs so that we may complete our task. It is fascinating when our nervous feelings and our occupations collide. I have a person for whom I hold much respect in his ability to present seminars and discussions. He is a consummate professional.
During one of his less formal presentations, he shared that he was an introvert. Now, this surprised me because I had most often seen him sharing information, answering questions, and conversing with strangers with no appearance of someone bothered to be in large groups of people. He shared that prior to and following these presentations, he had established quiet times for himself. This time included prayer and meditation, during which he spoke very little but allowed God to fill him with peace.
I believe that deliberate prayer and meditation are a necessary part of my day. Through my intentional time with God, I am filled with the strength to face all the challenges that I will encounter that day. Most days are filled with my quick prayers (my God tweets), but near the end of the day, I pause and thank God for being with me. As I reflect back on my last four years, I can clearly see the times that God held my hand and invited me to lean on him for strength. God is with us every moment, every day!
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Blessed God, We thank you for Your blessings. You are our source of strength and the provider of the peace we seek. Again, we thank You. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: God is the true source of my strength.
Harness the strength that God gives us! Pastor Liz
