Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
March 24, 2026
1 Corinthians 4:9-13
9 I suppose that God has shown that we apostles are at the end of the line. We are like prisoners sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle in the world, both to angels and to humans. 10 We are fools for Christ, but you are wise through Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, but we are dishonored! 11 Up to this very moment, we are hungry, thirsty, wearing rags, abused, and homeless. 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are insulted, we respond with a blessing; when we are harassed, we put up with it; 13 when our reputation is attacked, we are encouraging. We have become the scum of the earth, the waste that runs off everything, up to the present time.
Good Morning! Find joy in your surroundings today!
Paul describes those who listen and follow as fools for Christ! This description challenges us a bit. Most of us like to believe that we are smart enough to seek and find the truth in our lives, so we don’t like the moniker "foolish." Foolish is what you call those running off to find their fortune in the Old West. Foolish is what you call those who build an ark when the skies are clear. Hmmm!
Are we foolish for answering God’s call to come? There are many in our ever-increasing secular world who question why. Why waste your Sunday mornings sitting in church? Why is God letting things get so bad? Why this? Why that?
Why? Or maybe Who is Jesus? Scholar and author, C. S. Lewis, presented three options concerning Jesus:
He is a liar who said He was the Son of God but was not.
He is a lunatic who thought He was the Son of God and was not.
He is truly the Lord God, the Son of God, and God the Son.
I believe that Jesus is my Lord and Savior, and that God sent him to save me from myself and my sinful ways. By God’s grace, through Christ, I have abundant, eternal life. I can do nothing to earn this gift. God gives this gift to all who answer the call to come and follow Christ.
I am happy to foolishly live in the joy of living through Christ, who loves and saves me.
God of Wisdom, you bless us abundantly! It is funny that people label what they don’t understand. Help us to love you despite the doubting eyes of the world. We love you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
Thought for the day: Give thanks with a grateful heart!
Join the celebration of living a joyful life! Pastor Liz
