Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room
March 30, 2025
Matthew 6:25-34
25 “Therefore, I say to you, don’t worry about your life, what you’ll eat or what you’ll drink, or about your body, what you’ll wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds in the sky. They don’t sow seed or harvest grain or gather crops into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than they are? 27 Who among you by worrying can add a single moment to your life? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? . . . 34 Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Good Morning. Don’t worry, Be happy!
It’s fun when the scripture passages build on one another. Yesterday, we read Don’t Be Anxious; today, we read Don’t Worry. Hmmm! Do you think God is trying to tell us something?
Worry is a multi-faceted emotion. Sometimes, we worry about the minor details and totally miss the big picture. Think about a family dinner. We worry about whether there will be too little or too much food. We fret over cleaning the house. We agonize over the seating arrangement. On the day of the big gathering, we are so distracted by these things that we miss opportunities to spend time with our family.
Worry distracts us from what is important. We never know when this is the last gathering when this group will be together. Don’t allow worrying about the small things to keep you from spending precious moments with your family.
On our last day, the menu, the place settings, and the dust in the corner have faded far from our memories. Yet these three remain: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.
Loving Lord, Maker of all things! We are so silly! Help us let go of our worries! Thank you. We love you, Lord! In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen
Thought for the day: Dismiss the worry and make room for the love!
Don’t worry! Be happy! Pastor Liz
